Chat commands: !location, !speed, !eta

Half of IRL chat is people asking where you are. Let a bot answer.

irlmap.live gives you a set of links that reply with one short line of text. Any chat bot that can fetch a URL can use them, so it works with Nightbot, StreamElements, Fossabot or a bot you wrote yourself.

The commands

CommandExample reply
!locationCurrently around Vesterbro, Copenhagen, Denmark
!speedSpeed: 24 km/h
!distanceDistance this stream: 12.4 km
!maxspeedTop speed this stream: 61 km/h
!etaETA Tivoli: 18 min (3.2 km left)
!destinationHeading to Tivoli: 18 min (3.2 km left)
!weather🌦️ 11°C, light rain, wind 14 km/h
!timeLocal time for yourname: 21:42 (Europe/Copenhagen)

Add ?u=imperial to a link for mph, miles and °F.

!location is vague on purpose

It names the neighbourhood and the city, never a street or an address. It also uses the same stream delay as your overlays, says “hidden” inside your dead zones or when you’ve paused, and says you’re not live when you’re not. Chat gets an answer, and you don’t give away more than you’d say yourself.

Setting it up

Once you’re logged in, there are ready-to-paste lines under Settings → Chat commands. In Nightbot, for example:

!addcom !location $(urlfetch https://irlmap.live/c/your-chat-key/location)

The chat command guide has the StreamElements and Fossabot versions too.

Try it on your next stream

Free, and it takes about five minutes to set up.
