Privacy
This site handles location data, so here’s plainly what happens to it.
The short version
- Your location is only stored while you’re live on Twitch. Anything sent while you’re offline is thrown away.
- Dead zones, pause and the stream delay decide what anyone else sees.
- You can download every stream as GPX or KML, and delete it.
- No ads, and nothing is sold.
Who runs this
irlmap.live is run by an individual developer in Denmark, who is the data controller under GDPR. Questions or requests: irlmap@inctor.dk.
What’s stored
- Your Twitch account: user ID, login name, display name and profile picture. The Twitch token used to log you in is used once and revoked straight away.
- Locations while you’re live: position, time, speed, heading, altitude and accuracy, grouped per stream.
- Your settings: dead zones, overlays, destination, delay and similar.
- A login cookie so you stay logged in (up to 30 days).
- The irlmap.live app: each paired phone’s name (e.g. “Pixel 9”), platform and when it last sent. The app keeps its login in the phone’s secure storage and briefly queues locations on the phone if the connection drops.
Who can see what
While you’re live, your viewers see whatever your overlays and chat commands show, and anyone can see you on the public map if you have that turned on. All of it respects your dead zones, pause and stream delay. Your profile page (if you’re on the public map) lists your past streams with date, distance and length, but not where they went. Nobody sees your location while you’re offline.
Services used
- Twitch for logging in and checking whether you’re live.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim for place search and area names in
!location. - FOSSGIS routing (OSRM) to work out distance and time to your destination. Your position and destination are sent for that.
- Open-Meteo for weather and local time, using your position rounded to roughly 11 km.
- OpenFreeMap / OpenStreetMap for map tiles. These load in the viewer’s browser.
- Google Analytics, only if you click Accept in the cookie banner. Without that, no analytics cookies are set.
How long it’s kept
Locations stay until you delete the stream they belong to. Login sessions expire after 30 days.
