Privacy and stream sniping

A live map of where you are is a strange thing to put on the internet when you think about it. Here’s what irlmap.live does so the map isn’t the weak spot.

To be upfront: nothing makes IRL streaming fully safe. Your camera shows street signs, shops and landmarks, and some viewers are very good at using them. But the map shouldn’t be the thing that gives you away.

Only while you’re live

irlmap.live asks Twitch whether your channel is live. If it isn’t, your location is thrown away the moment it arrives. It isn’t stored, it isn’t published, and it won’t turn up in your history later. Forgot to stop your GPS app after the stream? Doesn’t matter.

Dead zones

Draw circles on the map around places you don’t want shown: your home, your hotel, a friend’s place. Inside a dead zone your location is hidden everywhere, on overlays, the public map and chat commands, and it kicks in the second you walk in. You can lock a zone so you don’t drag it somewhere by accident.

Stream delay

Set a delay (up to 15 minutes) and everything public runs that far behind you. Viewers see where you were, not where you are. If your stream already has a delay in OBS, use the same number and the map lines up with the video. Hiding is never delayed, so walking into a dead zone still hides you straight away.

Pause

One switch on the dashboard hides your location everywhere until you switch it back. Handy when you stop somewhere for a while.

Publish threshold

You can require a minimum distance and time before a new position goes out. The map stops twitching while you stand still, and your exact spot gets a bit fuzzier. Speed and the other stats keep updating either way.

Your data

Your dashboard shows everything, hidden points included, because it’s yours. You can download each stream as GPX or KML, or delete it with everything in it. The public map only ever gets what was actually published.

Try it on your next stream

Free. Set up your dead zones before your first stream.
