Speed and stats overlays
Speed, distance, top speed, altitude, incline, local time, weather and ETA. Pick what you want, style it, put it in OBS.
Speed is the classic. People love watching the number climb on a bike ride or a train. But there’s more you can show:
| Stat | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Speed | Current speed in km/h or mph (or m/s, or knots if you’re on a boat). Smoothed so it doesn’t flicker. |
| Distance | How far you’ve gone this stream. Starts from zero when a new stream starts. |
| Top speed | The fastest you’ve gone this stream. |
| Altitude | Height above sea level, from your GPS. |
| Incline | Road grade in percent, with an up or down arrow. |
| Local time | The time where you are. It follows you across time zones. |
| Weather | Temperature and conditions where you are. Wind, humidity and “feels like” if you want them. |
| To go / ETA | Distance and time left to the destination you’ve set. |
Put one stat on screen, or line several up in a stats bar. Fonts, sizes, colours, labels and a background box are all adjustable. There’s also a compass (a heading strip like in a game HUD, or a classic compass rose) and an elevation profile that draws your last few minutes of ups and downs.
Worth knowing
- Speed and distance are only as good as your GPS. Phones and modems drift a little when you stand still, so irlmap.live filters that out instead of counting it as distance.
- GPS altitude is noisy. Altitude and incline look great on a mountain road and fairly random on flat ground.
- If your GPS goes quiet (a tunnel, say), speed drops to 0 after 30 seconds instead of freezing on the last number. You can change the 30.
Setup works the same way as the map: add it to OBS as a Browser Source.
Try it on your next stream
Free, and it takes about five minutes to set up.
